Sonning Parish Council - Recreation & Environment
Chair
Responsibilities
1. Recreation
King George V Field which includes the council owned playing field, sports pavilion, car park, seats, childrens' playground, tennis courts, skatepark and the Nature Reserve (which encompasses Ali's Pond). Consideration has to be taken into account of licences issued to sports clubs for use of the field and its facilities and the condition of equipment on the field. A weekly check is made on all sports, play and recreational equipment.
The Pound Copse, which runs alongside the car park and Pound Lane.
Sonning Wharf, which sits just east of the bridge betwixt the river Thames and the Great House lawn, and includes a wooden landing stage, seats, trees and a grassed area - all for public use. However, despite the name, boats can no longer be launched from this area.
2. Environment
This covers all environmental issues that affect the parish. Our aim is to protect and improve the environment as much as possible within the parish and beyond, and especially on our own council owned land. This includes taking part in the Wokingham District Veteran Trees Association discovery and recording of all old and significant trees in the parish.
Our remit includes consideration/commenting on the effect on the environment of all planning applications in the parish.
We also consider the conditions of environment alongside the parish highways and byways, and how such conditions can be protected and improved.
Meetings
As required, not open to the public. Recommendations are presented to the full Parish Council for decisions.
